project reveal: next gen acres LIBRARY
Nestled in a tree-lined suburb of what was originally Omaha’s “west frontier”, a once-familiar residence was transformed by Archive Interiors. This extensive renovation of the main floor—including the entryway, living room, family room, kitchen and dining area, laundry and mudroom, plus multiple bedrooms —was driven by a desire to blend modern functionality with the home’s rich history.
“This space had to make sense for the lifestyle of the family that lives here. It needed to be beautiful and hold the extensive collection, but also be able to be messy and easy to grab for the kids. They spend a lot of time in here so we purposefully put kids books on the bottom shelves so they are a bit concealed if they don’t get back where they were supposed to go. Then the adult books are on the upper shelves for easier access and maintenance of the stacks. “
The former dining room was too small for family gatherings, but it made a perfect library to house the family’s collection of books.
Before- an under-utilized dining space that was too small to be functional for family meals and a bit too far away from the kitchen.
Comfy leather chairs are only going to get better with age. Picture lights and a game table set the moody for cozy evenings reading and playing chess.
The saturated dark green envelopes the entire room for a moody vibe.
Choosing pieces that felt like they have always been here was a big part of keeping the history of the home while still updating it.
